Programmer, Mid Level (Remote, Contract)

  • Type: Contract, 1 year
  • Location: Remote
  • £100-135 per day

We are a small team of 4 programmers in a company of around 25. We are looking to grow the team with people who can bring something interesting to the team. This is the chance to have a large impact on a growing company.

We need you to: (requirements)

  • work with Go (golang), PHP, Python, Java, JavaScript, HTML, CSS and MySQL
  • support legacy code
  • have good spoken English skills (you can discuss complex programming concepts)
  • have good written English skills (you can document complex programming concepts)
  • debate, in a friendly manner, the best way to do things with a group of people
  • bring new ideas and technology to the team
  • write automated tests
  • work in an Agile planning environment. (We currently use Scrum for long-term projects and Kanban for small items)
  • work in an environment where process and tooling are always changing
  • have your code reviewed by the team (peer code review)

At your level of knowledge, you should be able to: (expectations)

  • understand SQL join, group by, sub selects.
  • understand relational database concepts and data normalisation
  • OOP concepts classes, visibility modifiers (public, private, etc)
  • know a few design patterns in detail
  • talk in depth about some of the challenges of building websites

We would LOVE you to have: (get us excited about you)

  • an interest in sysadmin work on Linux
  • an interest in databases and DBA work
  • a flair for design
  • strong maths skills
  • an interest in data science (including machine learning)

We would like you to: (nice to haves)

  • work with Linux over SSH and help with simple administration tasks
  • do design mockups and prototypes
  • assist in the planning/Agile processes (Scrum Master, running planning meetings, etc.)
